| True
HEPA and ULPA Air filters. |
|
True
HEPA Filter !
True HEPA filter is a core
of the air filtration system in most modern air purifiers. HEPA is acronym
for High Efficiency
Particulate
Arresting.
It was develped in early 40th by the Atomic Energy Commision for effective
removal of radioactive airborne particles from the air in scientific laboratories
and nucler power stations. The result was so successfull that true HEPA
filter has soon become the standard for both the scientific and medical
communities.
True HEPA filter is over
99.97
% efficient in removal all airborne contaminants as small as down
to 0.3 micron in size. And this size range
includes all microscopic particles harmful for the human respiratory system
such as, lung damaging dust, mold spores, plant spores, pollen, dust mites
and dust mite debris, insecticide dust, particles in cigarette smoke, pet
dander, bird feather dust, bacteria, microbes, germs and viruses, etc.
Pleated true HEPA filter media has an extremely large filtration capacity
(amount of particles and allergens trapped) and is good for few years under
normal residential conditions. True HEPA filter used in the following air
purifier models we carry: Austin;
AllerAir;
Bionaire.
ULPA
Filter !
ULPA filter is an acronym
for Ultra Low
Penetrating
Air.
It
is from the same group of boro-silicate based non woven filters as true
HEPA and was developed in result of its further improvement. ULPA filter
is over 99.999 % efficient in trapping all
particles down to 0.1 micron in size and thus,
often called Ultra HEPA.
Because
of its extremely high efficiency, ULPA filter is widely used in hospital
operating theaters, semiconductor clean rooms, etc. - wherever the highest
filtration efficiency in removal of submicron particles is required.
ULPA
filter is used in new generation of Bionaire
air purifiers.

ULPA
- Ultra Low Penetrating
Air
(Ultra HEPA)
Guaranteed
efficiency - 99.999 % at 0.1
micron.
Only
one pacrticle at 0.1 micron in size out of 100,000 ones passes through
the ULPA filter (on average).
The
particle of 0.1 micron is 1/1000 diameter of a human hair (100 microns
in diameter) and 100 times smaller than the smallest size particle visible
with the naked human eye. |

HEPA
- High Efficiency
Particulate
Arresting
Guaranteed
efficiency - 99.97 % at 0.3
micron.
Thirty
pacrticles at 0.3 micron in size out of 100,000 ones passes through the
HEPA filter (on average).
The
particle of 0.3 micron is 1/333 diameter of a human hair (100 microns in
diameter) and 33 times smaller than the smallest size particle visible
with the naked human eye. |

Activated
Carbon.
Activated carbon is the
best adsorbent known to mankind for effective removal from the air of over
4000 chemical substances in form of gases, vapors, fumes, aerosols, smoke,
etc. This unique ability of activated granular carbon is a result of its
porous structure with billions of microscopic pores providing a tremendous
surface area for effective surfacing adsorption.
The actual adsorption capacity
of activated granular carbon for most of these chemicals is 15 % to 60
% of its own (carbon) weight. So, the amount of activated carbon in the
air purifier unit is absoltely critical for effective chemical and odor
adsorption, and directly affects the carbon filter lifetime. The Austin
Healthmate and AllerAir air purifiers employ
the largest amount of activated granular carbon among most air purifiers
on the market within their price range.
This ensures the extremely
high ability of these air cleaning devices to remove chemicals and all
noxious odors form the air in Holmes and offices.
Fiber
Carbon.
The recently developed fiber
carbon has 50 - 100 times speed of adsorption for wide range of chemicals,
and about 200 times the surface area of conventional activated carbon.
Meanwhile, the relatively small amount of fiber carbon normally used in
air purifiers can get saturated with chemicals and odors within shorter
period of time. The fiber carbon filter used in Austin
Healthmate HEGA units and most Bionaire
air purifier models.
V.O.C.
- Specialty Enhanced Carbon.
The adsorption capacity
of regular activated carbon is pretty low for specific chemicals such as,
formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds, ammonia, heavy metal gases, etc.
A specialty enhanced impregnted carbon should be used instead of regular
one for effective removal of those chemicals. Specialty enhanced impregnated
granular carbon is used in the following air purifier models: Austin
Healthmate Plus; all AllerAir
VOC and UVOC models
